Gino Sarfatti
Gino Sarfatti, Model No. 1056
Designed 1948, manufactured by Arteluce, Milan
Opaline methacrylate, grey-lacquered aluminium, brass, and painted cast iron. This model c1950s and in excellent condition. The lamp has been lightly cleaned and rewired using original fittings where possible.
Model 1056 is one of Gino Sarfatti’s most refined early post-war designs. Introduced in 1948, it features a cylindrical diffuser in opaline methacrylate that can be rotated to modulate light intensity — an ingenious forerunner of the modern dimmer.
Remaining in Arteluce’s catalogues for over two decades, Model 1056 represents a turning point in Italian modern lighting, heralding a new aesthetic of clarity and precision. Its enduring appeal lies in this balance: the warmth of opaline light softened by a design of almost architectural discipline.
