A “Pezzato", blown glass vase with applied red and turquoise tesserae in clear casing, of rectangular section rising to a circular mouth, the interior with scattered controlled bubbles, polished pontil to the base. Signed Cenedese

FULVIO BIANCONI ,
FOR GINO CENEDESE & C., MURANO CIRCA 1955–60

Height: 34cm
Cenedese, Murano

Literature:
Cf. M. Barovier Mentasti, Murano '900: Glass in Italy 1900–1990, Milan, 1992, pp. [insert page if comparable example located].

Note:
This striking example of Bianconi’s collaboration with Gino Cenedese & C. demonstrates his mastery of colour and form. While his Pezzato designs are most closely associated with Venini, he also produced a number of related works for Cenedese between 1954 and the early 1960s. The bold rectangular blocks of turquoise and red suspended within the clear wall exemplify the designer’s fascination with painterly abstraction in glass.
