The rectangular white marble top above a frieze centred by a gilt-bronze palmette flanked by stars, supported by Egyptian female term uprights with nemes headdresses, the mirrored recess on a plinth base. Style of Molitor, French c1805

This console reflects the wave of ‘Egyptomania’ following Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign. The term figures and mirrored recess are typical of Empire and Restauration interiors. Comparable examples are held in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
